Tailored to suit various times of the day, I offer specialized sessions in the serene morning light, the vibrant daylight hours, the magical evening glow, and the mysterious midnight ambience. Each workshop provides a unique opportunity to capture the intricate beauty of nature under different lighting conditions, guided by me, Stewart Wood. Whether you’re an early bird or a night owl, my workshops equip you with the techniques and skills to create stunning close-up images, transforming ordinary subjects into extraordinary works of art. Join me for an unforgettable journey into the tiny, mesmerizing world of macro photography!

During this hands-on outdoor macro workshop, you will learn:

Single Shots:

We will begin with the fundamentals of single-shot macro photography. You’ll learn to find and frame your subjects, understand the importance of lighting, and master focusing to bring out the finest details in your shots. From the delicate petals of a flower to the intricate patterns on an insect’s wing, single shots will help you capture the beauty of the macro world in its most natural form.

Focus Stacking:

To push your skills further, we will delve into focus stacking, this technique combines multiple images taken at different focus distances to create a single image with unparalleled depth of field. This method is particularly useful for macro photography, where achieving complete sharpness in a single shot can be challenging due to the shallow depth of field.

Workshop Schedule:

Daytime Session (10am – 4pm):

Explore the vibrant colours and sharp contrasts that midday light provides. Learn to manage harsh shadows and highlight details in brightly lit environments. Prefer flash, I’ll show you how to cut out all ambient light from the scene and have full control over the light in the scene.

Morning Session (4am – 10am):

Capture the soft, golden light of the early hours. Mornings are perfect for photographing dew-kissed insects as the insects have not warmed up yet and are easy to photograph.

Evening Session(4pm – 10pm):

Take advantage of the warm, diffused light of the setting sun. Evening sessions offer a serene atmosphere and the chance to photograph subjects bathed in rich, golden hues. As the temperature drops the insects slow down.

Midnight Session (12am – 6am):

Experience the magic of nocturnal macro photography under the moonlight. Learn to use artificial lighting creatively to highlight your subjects against the mysterious backdrop of the night. One of the advantages of midnight macro walks is that most of the insects are asleep.

Throughout the workshop, you will receive hands-on guidance and personalized feedback from me.  Join me for an unforgettable adventure in macro photography, and discover the extraordinary details that lie hidden in the world around us.

I had a great day with Stewart.
He is very knowledgeable and took his time with me setting up and giving me tips about my camera before going out into the field.
I’ve learned a huge amount and can’t recommend his workshop enough.
I would highly recommend spending time with him.
